getting accepted into a school we feel is a good fit for our family: AWESOME!

We are so excited!
And grateful!
An opening at Legacy Preparatory Academy's kindergarten class was offered to us for Wyatt for the 2010-11 school year. We've been praying for over six months and are incredibly humbled and thankful for this opportunity. We're also hoping this bumps Halle up further on the LPA list!

"learning" from ancient prophets...

One night before bed, Wyatt offered our family prayer. It was a wonderful prayer from a 5-year old, actually very mature as he was mindful of nearly every family member (close and extended). He expressed gratitude for many [MANY] things and was incredibly thorough. It really was a fantastic prayer and I was very proud of him, however, it was a bit lengthy. So we couldn't help but chuckle at Halle's witty comment after we'd all said amen:
"Wow, Wyatt, you're as bad as Enos!"
I wasn't aware she even knew who Enos was, but her comparison was too, too funny!

I find myself stronger and more in tune

Well, I finished it.
*
After one year of reading and studying, taking my time for cross-referencing and prayerful observation, I have completed reading the Book of Mormon for the fourth time in my life. This may not be the first read, but I have to say this has been the most meaningful one. Reading it as a teenager in high school was probably the most informative and educational, receiving insight and instruction from seminary teachers, but this time around has proven to have had the most influence in my daily life. I credit that to coupling my reading with prayer. I was more aware of the need to have my Heavenly Father's help as I read. Each morning, before even cracking the book open, I'd pray and ask Heavenly Father to assist me in understanding the words, meanings, symbolisms, and timetable. I asked Him to help clear my mind of other things as I tried to steady my focus. I asked to feel the Spirit and to be able to find something each day that I can apply in my own life, something that would help me feel closer to Him as I continued throughout my daily activities. I tried to take time following each day's reading to simply sit in the quiet and reflect upon my feelings and what I had just read. Sometimes I prayed again, asking for clarification or expressing my gratitude. Prayer became a partner to the reading and I think that's what made the biggest difference. The scriptures became very personal and most of all I felt I received more personal revelation during this time of study than ever before. Reading the scriptures has truly become key to feeling the hand of the Lord in my life and knowing His will and love for me.

I'm almost sad to have this come to an end and find myself anxious to begin again. I started reading last June because we had challenged the young men and women in the ward to read everyday -- I have to say I believe those that actually took on the opportunity are only a small percentage, but I hope that this reading challenge gave at least one youth similar feelings to mine. In my eyes, it all would have then been a success. I know it was for me!

Nice to know I'm good for somethin'...and that my kids are willing to fund their own "impossible dream"

Wyatt and Halle just came downstairs to tell me that they want to give me all of their money so that they can fly to Hollywood and meet Miley Cyrus.

Oh, and they say they are willing to let me come, too, since you "can't fly on an airplane without a grownup". So glad my life has found new purpose!

2010 Piano Recital

I love my students! And I love the opportunity they give me to teach something that brings so much joy into my life! (l. to r. - back row: Bruce & Lovely Tukuafu, Tabatha & Ryan Luker, me; middle row: Alec & Keaton Woodruff, Gavin Tobin, Samuel Ericksen; front row: Maddie Walk, Brandon Bargeron, Tanner Woodruff, Ashlyn Otis, Halle)
I was so proud of Halle's performance this year. She did an incredible job! She played two songs, "Spinning Song" by Ellmenreich and "Sleeping Beauty" by Tchaikovsky. She memorized "Spinning Song" and most of "Sleeping Beauty" but at the last second chose to use her music for the latter. What made me beam with pride was the fact that even though she struggled with the Tchaikovsky piece and it was obviously difficult, even bringing her to tears, she didn't give up and continued playing. She was brave in the face of self-doubt and overcame. I wanted to stand up and shout, "That's my girl!"
