i - heart - general conference.

Back in September, I was reading King Benjamin's address to his people (Mosiah, Chapter 2) and as I read verse 9, I couldn't help but think it was much like our Semi-Annual gathering to General Conference:
"...My brethren, all ye that have assembled yourselves together, you that can hear my words which I shall speak unto you this day; for I have not commanded you to come up hither to trifle with the words which I shall speak, but that you should hearken, and open your ears that ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand, and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view."

Hope's Favorite Conference Moments, Oct. 09:

Richard G. Scott:
* When receiving personal revelation, ask "Was there yet more to be given?" Then write your thoughts down and give a prayer of thanks. Then ask again, "Is there more I should know?"
* You must exercise your agency to -authorize- the Spirit to teach you.

David A. Bednar:
How to be more diligent and concerned at home:
-Express your love to others
-Do more of what we know to be right, become better
-Bear your testimony and LIVE it.
-Be consistent. Many ordinary brushstrokes come together to create a masterpiece on canvas.

President Uchtdorf:
-How do we become true disciples of Jesus Christ?
Why should we love God? He does not "need" us to love Him, but WE need to love God. Love is truly the defining characteristic of a disciple of Jesus Christ.
-Though we are incomplete, God loves us completely. Though we are imperfect, God loves us perfectly.
-The first step in walking in righteousness is simply to TRY, and to keep on trying.

Kent D. Watson:
Learning to be temperate is a gift given through the Holy Ghost.
-One who is humble, full of love is one who tempers ones own anger and becomes a master of oneself.
-Security for our families comes from practicing self-control and refraining from indulgences.

President Packer:
-Your mind is in charge and your body is an instrument of your mind.

President Eyring:
"Men & Women make covenants that they will put the happiness and welfare of the other at the center of their lives."
-Pray for the love which allows you to see the good in your companion, which makes weaknesses seem small, and pray for the desire to lighten their burden.

Ann M. Dibb:
We learn and grow by overcoming challenges with faith, with persistence and with personal righteousness.

President Monson:
-"Man's greatest happiness comes through the losing himself in the service of others." David O. McKay
-Were we to step back adn take a good look at what we're doing, are we spending time in things that really do not mean that much in the grand scheme of things?
-"I have wept in the night for the shortness of sight that to somebody's need made me blind; But I never have yet Felt a tinge of regret for being a little to kind"
-Warm Fuzzies Jar (I am totally doing one of those for our family!)
-Elder Richard L. Evans of the Quorum of the Twelve: "It isn't easy for those who are young to understand the loneliness that comes when life changes from a time of preparation and performance to a time of putting things away.... To be so long the center of a home, so much sought after, and then, almost suddenly, to be on the sidelines watching the procession pass by — this is living into loneliness. ... We have a long time to learn how empty a room can be that is filled only with furniture. It takes someone ... beyond mere hired service, beyond institutional care or professional duty, to thaw out the memories of the past and keep them warmly living in the present. ... We cannot bring them back the morning hours of youth. But we can help them live in the warm glow of a sunset made more beautiful by our thoughtfulness ... and unfeigned love."
-Jesus said, "whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it," "I believe the Savior is telling us that unless we lose ourselves in service to others, there is little purpose to our own lives. Those who live only for themselves eventually shrivel up and, figuratively, lose their life, while those who lose themselves in service to others grow and flourish — and in effect save their life."
-What have I done for someone today?

"The democracy will cease to exist when you TAKE AWAY from those who are willing to work AND GIVE to those who would not."

Thomas Jefferson
